20-22 October 2014
Cape Town, South Africa
The theme of the conference was to develop thinking for “Unlocking Africa’s potential through the regional integration of transport infrastructure to enhance socioeconomic growth”. Mr Tony Crosby, GM Services, 4Tel Pty Ltd spoke on “A Case Study – Outsourcing In Regional New South Wales, Australia”
- Explain a newly outsourced regional rail network in western New South Wales Australia commissioned in 2012
- Discuss the cost reductions and productivity improvements that modern technology has provided
Tony developed the idea that Australia and Africa have many similar challenges with supporting remote infrastructure. Australia’s technology is developed for hot hostile environments, and very remote areas of operations. Many of the developments achieved in Australian technology could be similarly applicable to African rail problems.
