University of Newcastle and 4Tel have engaged in research collaboration on Transport Safety. The Project which commenced in September 2016 is exploring new ways to use vision and machine learning within the Transport industry.
New computer vision and machine learning techniques allow the researchers and developers to solve tasks that were regarded as impossible a few years ago. Undergraduate and postgraduate students have become associated with the project and are gaining valuable industry experience in an area of great potential growth.
Tony Crosby (General Manager of Services) and Associate Professor Stephan Chalup (Head of Newcastle Robotics Lab) are leading the project for both teams, and are delighted to be giving the students an opportunity to research into new algorithms that may have potential for application in the real-world.
4Tel has engaged with the University as a platinum sponsor of the NUbot team, as well as providing sponsorship for a PhD student top-up for the purposes of specialised transport research.
